We Made A Ping Pong Table – Sort of

We had a lot of sheets of wood left over from our bowling night, so we decided to make a ping pong table with one of the sheets. A 4′ by 8′ sheet is a little smaller than a typical ping pong table and our sheet was definitely not as smooth, but we decided to give it a shot.

We put the sheet of wood on 2 saw horses amd put a couple coats of paint on top. The paint helped make the wood smoother and also protect it from the rain. We used Masking table for the lines, and added a clear coat of paint to seal the masking tape from the outdoor elements.

We purchased a ping pong kit from amazon here which included a net, 2 paddles and 2 balls from under $30.

You can see in this photo that we made a frame out of 2″ by 3″ lumber to ensure the table would be stable while playing. We made sure the frame was 4″ smaller than the sheet of wood all the way around. This is important as the net we purchased clipped to the table, but needed the overhang in order to clip properly.

Overall it was a fun project and the table worked well for us for a few weeks, but ultimately we are not a table tennis family and it sat mostly unused awaiting the next transformation.
