Feeling artistic, we decided to come up with a board game that was easy and fun. We also wanted it to stand out, so we decided to use our DIY ping pong table (which was a piece of wood left over from our bowling night)) and go big with this project!
We make a rough outline of our game and rules and once we were confident that we had a fun game outline, we sketched it out on the wood and outlined it with a thick sharpie. Our game represents a year divided into 4 sections representing the seasons.
Each players takes a turn rolling a dice and moving along the seasons. If the player lands on a circle with an “M” – they get a memory card. If they land on a circle with a “G”, they get a Glitch card.
Memory cards have an activity, such as “Go to the Beach”, but it also shows which season the card is valid for. If your game piece is in the Winter and you pick up this card, you do not get to keep it.
Each memory card also shows the number of memories you get from the card. The beach might only be worth 1 memory, but going to Disney World might be worth 5.
The glitch cards disrupt memories. Sometimes they allow you to steal a memory card from another player, our you might simply lose memories due to memory lose.
Once everybody has completed their year, each player counts their memories and the person with the most wins!
We made the game cards using google docs and printed them at home. We used standard dice and for game pieces we used small figurines and toys like hot wheels.
