DIY Halloween – Beware of the Caged Monster

The box looked like a crate that was dropped in our front yard by a helicopter! We have a moving monster inside with random growls and motion sensor sound effects. There is a black light inside with lots of fluorescent paint to brighten up the inside.

The Structure

The box was made with 6, 4′ by 4′ foot walls and screwed to a frame made with 2″ by 2″ lumber. we were using thin sheets of wood, so we doubled up the floor, making it twice as thick. The back has some hinges and a latch that locks.

We found some old coaster wheels and put them on the bottom to make it easy to pull around. We found a large eyebolt and some chain to make it look like it had been flown in.

The Front

We used some old 1by3 boards to frame the front and cut a hole and added some bars. The bars are an old metal broom handle cut and held in place with screws. We painted some words on the outside and made sure the boards and bars looked old and rusty.

The Inside

The “monster” is made with some old clothes on a stick, attached to an oscillating fan.

The moaning effects are saved on an old iphone 4 and setup to play at night and connected to a charger

The light is a black light florescent bulb .

The monster, iphone, and light are all connected to an extension cord on a timer.

We also made bats and spiders and painted them in florescent paint and splashed lots of paint on the walls.
